When to buy?

As a guide, auctions that finish on Thursday afternoon or Sunday evening generally fetch more. That said, you can quickly find the best retail price by clicking here to see the price on Amazon and see whether there's a real bargain to be had. Expect games of a year or more old to be up to 80% of the original selling price. Newer games can be around 50% of their original selling price. The value of these games at auction is generally amazing compared to their retail price.

Any problems to expect?

Because they are easy to post and relatively robust you shouldn't expect any problems with delivery. Just check that the game is compatible with your console, eg Xbox, Playstation, Wii etc

Avoid pirate games like the plague, they are generally not written on media that stands the test of time and you have no comeback to the seller when he gets booted off Ebay for selling tat.

Xbox 360 laser burnt discs - if the game disc was in an 360 when it died (RROD or similar) it will burn a perfect circle into the back of the disc this will make it unplayable so make sure you ask the seller to clarify what "slight" scratches might mean. If you do find yourself with one of these laser burnt discs do not worry! You can borrow the relevant game off a friend or game rental store then install it to your hard drive, you will need a disc in the drive to play it and for this you can use your laser burnt disc as it only needs to read the first sector of the disc!

Once the game arrives, check the disc for scratches and give it a quick wipe if required. We here at GHR house generally use a soft, damp cloth and wipe gently in the direction of the track, eg in a circle following the curvature of the disc. Dry it with another soft dry cloth and job done.

Test and report

Now bang out some riffs and give it a good test. Once you are happy that the game plays well, leave the seller some honest feedback and they should do the same.
