screws it

Postby stimepy » Mon Nov 09, 2009 7:30 am

No literally, Went and got a t6 screwdriver, and maybe it's just me but I stripped about 4 screw heads getting them out. And another one when I tried to put it back together(yea I gave up on the screw driver) (No one else I've talked to has said anything about such a problem :( ) So, while I wait for a new t6 screw driver, I was wondering if anyone knew a place to get the screws. They've got to be out there, I just don't know where. So far all my searches have turned up, repair kits, and screw drivers, and cell phone screws. (none of which, from the shotty picture(s), look like they will work :( ) Any suggestions would be welcome at this point.

Hey Stimepy

Which screws do you mean? The Guitar ones are usually T10 or phillips with 4 extra small screws where the neck attaches. If you need screws I can probably help but you have got to be a bit more specific about which ones

Cheers

I talked to another guy about the screws the night I posted. He said he'd be able to get them for me. There were 3 t6 screws from the circuit boards and 1 from the top holding the case together (GHWT guitar). Thank you for your fast response though.

Depends on where you live and what you have around you. I have got a lot of replacement screws from local diy & hardware stores. They don't have to be Torx headed, this is really for anti-tamper (something which we at Guitar Hero Repair Towers think is like a red rag to a bull.... :D ). Even taking screws out of old radios/TVs/laptops/consoles can give you something which will do the job, visit the local tip or charity shop if you are desperate to find something.

As a general rule of thumb, check that the diameter is the same or you'll end up breaking the plastic. The length is important but a longer screw can be trimmed to length with a pair of sidecutters or cutting pliers. Watch your eyes here! Length of screw is particularly important in some instances where a longer screw will break through and touch a circuit board.

It's also a question of feel. Do it a few times and you realise how much to twist the screw and at what point you stop turning.

Hope this helps!
