Anyway to fix the turntable?

Postby Bad_Guy » Fri Nov 06, 2009 9:33 am

Hey there,

I've just received the Renegate Edition of the Game.
Scratch on the turntable were fine for 30 mintes, after it's no more working.

Each time, I tried to scratch, I missed.
It seems that the turntable is broken :( Impossible for me to refund.

Any way to fix it ?

Hi Thanks for joining the forums

So you are the first person to come with a repair problem! We have already done a complete teardown of our DJ Hero controllers and have found that the way the scratch is recognised is this:

On the inside of the turntable there is a ring of teeth, these pass through a sensor so the controller knows how much the turntable has been turned. We are about to post the pictures and write up of this controller teardown and put it up on the website - this will hopefully be done by Monday and I will update this answer with the link so you can see what is inside.

Have you tried the obvious things like batteries and letting someone else have a go to make sure its not just how you are doing it? ( not to say you are not a fine DJ!)

When we have put the pictures up maybe we can work out some troubleshooting steps for you to try and work this one out for you. It may be a slow process at first so if anyone has any thoughts on this to help a fellow DJ out please chip in!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your welcome and reply.

- I tried to change battery but still got the issue.
- I tried the game on the PS3 Fat and Slim Edition => failed

To be more precise, scratchs have been working for few minutes when playing the game for the first time.
I wonder if it's not the rewind scratch which may be the cause of the problem.
Maybe I rewinded to fast and it has damaged the turntable :/

As I'm living on a island in the South Pacific, I can't refund the game to Amazon without paying very expensive shipping fees
That's why I have to fix it by myself and I'm looking forward your pics and tutorial :D

Thanks !

Hi

Well we have put the first pictures of our DJ Hero Controller teardown on the website.

At the moment is is just a collection of pictures of the inside of the turntable controller showing the different parts inside and helping to give an idea of what might be going on inside your controller! I think anyone with any issues should be having a look at this before doing anything else!

hope this helps a few people, if it does come and tell us how!

What kind of screwdriver did you use to open the turntable ?

Everything used a small phillips + screwdriver, no hidden screws, no tamperproof seal - it was too easy really!

Thanks for the pics !

I've just started to open the turntable.
Screw seems to be bad quality, I almost damaged a head.

Anyway, concerning my spin issue, now the turntable is completly open, I'm gonna do some test to make spin working

I did some tests -> unsucess.

If I do understand, the sensor should detect when teeth are moving. It makes a scratch on the screen.

For testing purposes, i tried to move a piece of paper in front of the sensor to simulate teeth actions -> FAILED

Now, I dont know what to do

Hi

I dont think a piece of paper would be any good to test it anyway, I have been going through the pictures on the website trying to think of how or what you could test next, it does sound a lot like the sensor is not working properly but without any way of testing, it would be a gable to try and do anything about it and I understand your position about not being able to return the item because of postage charges.

We are looking into repairs now, trying to source parts and test things but it will take a couple of weeks until we might have anything ready to go. I will drop you an email as soon as we have anything but if your investigations turn anything else useful up let us know and we will help you get this sorted somehow!
