orange symbol never worked

Hi. I think my orange symbol never worked and I bought it for an early Christmas gift so it was almost out of warrenty before I even opened it.

Anyway, after I took the back off and switched the orange and yellow symbol connector on the board the orange symbol still did not work. So I thougt it was the connector I needed to replace but after reading your forum I am beginning to believe it is the cord? Would that be a good assumtion? There is not any visible cord damage or anything.
