The end of Guitar Hero?

March 9, 2011 by

It seems that following worse than anticipated sales figures for Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock, combined with a general decline in the music game genre, Activision has announced it will be ending the Guitar Hero game franchise.
Here is a quick Q & A direct from the official GH forums

Does this mean you're no longer making Guitar Hero games?

Over the past two years, we have seen rapid declines in the music genre, and unfortunately, based on current demand, we simply cannot continue to profitably make these games given the considerable licensing and manufacturing costs.

Does this mean you're no longer selling Guitar Hero games? Will I still be able to buy one?
We will continue to sell and support our catalogue of Guitar Hero titles.

Are you still going to make new DLC for Guitar Hero?
We will release the previously announced DLC track and mix packs for February, but - unfortunately - we will not be able to release new DLC packs beyond what we already have.

Are you still going to sell DLC for the Guitar Hero games that are already out?
Yes, we will continue to sell and support the DLC track and mix packs that have already been released for Guitar Hero games.

Are you still going to support/provide customer service for Guitar Hero?
Yes, we will continue to provide customer support for all of our previously released Guitar Hero games. If you are experiencing issues with your game, please contact http://activision.custhelp.com.

If I buy something GH today from retail is it still covered under warranty?
Yes, we will continue to provide customer support for all of our previously released Guitar Hero games. If you are experiencing issues with your game, please contact http://activision.custhelp.com.

Does this mean you're never going to make another Guitar Hero game? Or just not this year?
We can never say never, but over the past two years we have seen rapid declines in the music genre, and unfortunately, based on current demand, we simply cannot continue to profitably make these games given the considerable licensing and manufacturing costs.

Are you still going to give away the free Megadeth song during the Grammys?
Yes, we are still planning to offer a free Megadeth MP 3 download to our Facebook fans from Feb. 10 at 9:00 pm PST – Feb. 13 at 9:00 pm PST.

Will they continue to maintain the online gameplay servers?
We will continue to maintain the online gameplay servers allowing our Guitar Hero fans to continue to connect and play online.

Will the hub (i.e. the entire GH website) be taken down?
The Guitar Hero hub will not be taken down. While we are not making any new games, we will continue sell and support our catalogue of Guitar Hero and DJ Hero titles including Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and DJ Hero2, which were released last year.

Thanks to all of you who love Guitar Hero.

So while many dedicated fans may fret that they may never see another Guitar Hero game, we here at GuitarHeroRepair.com think that we have not seen the end of this format yet. Being in a band is still the coolest thing in the world (official) and wanting to feel like you are in a band without having to undertake the years finger-bleeding practise will continue to be popular so while the end of this chapter is in sight we feel sure we will see Activision enter the arena again in the not too distant future with (hopefully) a fresh take on the concept.
Rest assured, as long as there are gamers out there that want to continue playing GuitarHeroRepair.com will be here to make sure you can!

We found this video on Youtube which plays a short section of each song so if you don't recognise any of them get listening and commenting - we want to know what you think of the setlist!

Guitar Hero 6 Demo now availiable free on Xbox live

September 13, 2010 by

The latest (and hopefully greatest) release in the Guitar Hero Franchise is now here and Xbox live gold members can download a 4 song demo now for free!

The demo features 4 great songs and they are:

· Black Sabbath “Children of the Grave”
· Foo Fighters “No Way Back”
· Slash featuring Ian Astbury “Ghosts”
· Dethklok “Bloodlines” (bonus track)

The demo shows how your character progresses through the game - you start with a no-good, drop-out, punk guy who has little in the way of true rock skills. Once you have played through a couple of the songs and won yourself some points your punk rocker starts to morph! In the demo you are awarded the Speed Freak power up and this triggers a cool animation showing your guy morphing and changing into a "Monster of Rock", obviously in the full game you will keep on changing until you are a true and all powerful monster of rock!

This is a good demo and shows off some of the games really good points - its not as easy as say GH5 but many in the community will see this as a good thing - let the aching fingers commence!

The full game will be available on the 28th September and we cannot wait - check out the trailer below!

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock – Coming September 2010

Warriors of Rock - The exciting release of the new Guitar Hero Experience is due in September 2010.

New visuals, new art, new stories, new bands, new controllers, same exciting action!

Enter the all new Quest Mode where the voice of KISS legend Gene Simmons narrates an epic story while players attempt to complete songs and challenges to progress the game.  The members of the band have the task of releasing the 'Demigod of Rock' from his imprisonment by 'The Beast' by gaining strength through their success and the addition of more band members. One of the final songs in Quest Mode has been co-written by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine with Mustaine stating they were "the most difficult parts" he has written in his life.

GH: Warriors of Rock has a new art style and new visuals, the playlist has been specifically compiled to include huge solos and  plenty of guitar shredding action. A newly designed guitar controller will be released with Warriors of Rock and has been specifically designed for shredding.

Playing real instruments to your favourite GH tracks

May 17, 2010 by
Filed under Latest news, Real instruments, Tutorials

We were recently sent an interesting email by one of our visitors telling us how to record your favorite Guitar Hero tracks for playing along with your real instruments, what better way to show the effect Guitar Hero is having in turning fans of music games into real musicians!

Before we get started we should point out this is not a tutorial on unlawfully coping music for distribution in any way, this is another way fans of the game who own their own copy can use the content on that disk to play the game in a different way. To use this for any other purpose would be unlawful and we do not do not condone it.

What you will need before we start:

  • Tv, console and Guitar Hero game disc (works with Rock Band also)3.5mm Stereo plug
  • The instrument you wish to have DEDUCTED from the final track (i.e. if you want to record drumless tracks for playing with your real drumkit, as we will here, then you will need the Guitar Hero drumkit controller)
  • PC with a audio input port (see below for more details)
  • 3.5 mm audio cable (go to Amazon store)
  • Copy of the free audio editing programme Audacity

Setup your equipment as you usually would but plug the 3.5mm cable from the headphone socket on your TV into the line in on your PC (a great visual tutorial for setting up your PC to record from an external input can be found on the Audacity Tutorial pages) and set Audacity up to record from that input.

Start the game and go into the practise mode (so you don't get the crowd noises) choose the song you want and start it up. When the song is about to start pause the game, start Audacity recording and then unpause the game and leave it. If you do not hit any of the notes what you will be recording is the original track without the drum track on it, allowing you to play the drum part on your kit in the garage or wherever it is. This works perfectly well if you are a bassist, guitarist or singer that would like to practise your favourite songs from the game on your real instruments!

To clean up the audio you record have a look at some of the Other Audacity Tutorials for improving your recordings.

Guitar Hero 6 – coming soon!

We can't say we are surprised to hear it but Guitar Hero 6 is on it's way!

In an interview with Tesla guitarist Dave Rude he let slip that they have been asked to provide one of their tracks for the upcoming release, Modern Day Cowboy is, at the moment, the only track that we are aware of but rest assured more will follow.

There are no more details about the game at the moment, but as soon as information comes out we will pass it straight on to you and in the absence of actual facts lets start some speculation! What tracks or features would you like to see in the new game? Have Activision gone as far as they can with the series now or are there still ideas to come? One thing we would like to see is more of a crossover with DJ Hero, could we see some Limp Bizkit / Linkin Park tracks with a full band and a turntable? With the release of Band Hero to please the not-too-hard music fans will Guitar Hero 6 pick up where Guitar Hero 2 and 3 left off - classic rock and harder music?

We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas, just pop them in the comments below!

Guitar Hero Van Halen – Free Demo on Xbox Live

December 10, 2009 by

As we have now come to expect and admire, the release of Guitar Hero Van Halen is being accompanied by a free demo available now on Xbox Live. The demo features 4 playable tracks from the game, they are -Dope Nose (Weezer), End of Heartache (Killswitch Engage), Eruption (Eddie Van Halen Solo), Panama (Van Halen). From playing the demo we can confirm that past fans of the game who think it has now gone too soft and easy will not be disappointed, Eddie Van Halen is known as a master of his art for a very good reason and anyone completing this on expert really needs to consider a career in music! DJ Hero is as addictive as Guitar Hero!

November 3, 2009 by

Well it came as a shock to us to, we are all of the metal persuasion when it comes to music, but DJ Hero may well be good enough to convert rockers to ravers!

The new game has been out for a few days now and having battled the shopping masses to get the game on release day, we have had some time to sit down and really get into the game. coming from the same makers as the Guitar Hero series you would be correct in assuming it shares a lot of the same features (renamed but still there, thinly disguised!) and some of those skills your fingers developed in GH will certainly come in handy while mixing.

The game operates as if you were a DJ playing 2 records at the same time, mixing and scratching between them and adding your samples over the top, this is easily represented in the game by the green and blue glowing lines as your two records, which can be scratched and played independently of each other or at the same time by use of the crossfader. You also have the samples which are represented by the red line, this allows you to play in the samples the song requires but also gives you the ability to throw in some of your own when you get the chance - not exactly contributing to the song very well but more making your friends laugh at all the air horns you are putting over an otherwise great track.

The mixes and DJ's represent a real variety of DJ based music from hip hop, old school, funk, r n b, dance, electronica and scratching genres and even through you may not think you'd like the music, when it feels like you have some control over it you really do feel involved.

The DJ controller is small but perfectly formed, it feels good, works well (so far!), and is not too big to have lying around with all your other plastic toys. We have done a complete stripdown of the controller and are in the process of getting the article ready at the moment, as soon as it is done we can show you the inner workings so all you modders can start thinking of how to pimp it up a little!

The longevity of the game will depend on DLC (and how deep your pockets are) and how much you love the music but with the difficulty akin to maybe GHWT, most people should be able to 4/5 star things on easy after a bit of practise but hard and then expert will take some work, this should last a good while.
