Guitar Hero 6 Demo now availiable free on Xbox live

September 13, 2010 by

The latest (and hopefully greatest) release in the Guitar Hero Franchise is now here and Xbox live gold members can download a 4 song demo now for free!

The demo features 4 great songs and they are:

· Black Sabbath “Children of the Grave”
· Foo Fighters “No Way Back”
· Slash featuring Ian Astbury “Ghosts”
· Dethklok “Bloodlines” (bonus track)

The demo shows how your character progresses through the game - you start with a no-good, drop-out, punk guy who has little in the way of true rock skills. Once you have played through a couple of the songs and won yourself some points your punk rocker starts to morph! In the demo you are awarded the Speed Freak power up and this triggers a cool animation showing your guy morphing and changing into a "Monster of Rock", obviously in the full game you will keep on changing until you are a true and all powerful monster of rock!

This is a good demo and shows off some of the games really good points - its not as easy as say GH5 but many in the community will see this as a good thing - let the aching fingers commence!

The full game will be available on the 28th September and we cannot wait - check out the trailer below!

Playing real instruments to your favourite GH tracks

May 17, 2010 by
Filed under Latest news, Real instruments, Tutorials

We were recently sent an interesting email by one of our visitors telling us how to record your favorite Guitar Hero tracks for playing along with your real instruments, what better way to show the effect Guitar Hero is having in turning fans of music games into real musicians!

Before we get started we should point out this is not a tutorial on unlawfully coping music for distribution in any way, this is another way fans of the game who own their own copy can use the content on that disk to play the game in a different way. To use this for any other purpose would be unlawful and we do not do not condone it.

What you will need before we start:

  • Tv, console and Guitar Hero game disc (works with Rock Band also)3.5mm Stereo plug
  • The instrument you wish to have DEDUCTED from the final track (i.e. if you want to record drumless tracks for playing with your real drumkit, as we will here, then you will need the Guitar Hero drumkit controller)
  • PC with a audio input port (see below for more details)
  • 3.5 mm audio cable (go to Amazon store)
  • Copy of the free audio editing programme Audacity

Setup your equipment as you usually would but plug the 3.5mm cable from the headphone socket on your TV into the line in on your PC (a great visual tutorial for setting up your PC to record from an external input can be found on the Audacity Tutorial pages) and set Audacity up to record from that input.

Start the game and go into the practise mode (so you don't get the crowd noises) choose the song you want and start it up. When the song is about to start pause the game, start Audacity recording and then unpause the game and leave it. If you do not hit any of the notes what you will be recording is the original track without the drum track on it, allowing you to play the drum part on your kit in the garage or wherever it is. This works perfectly well if you are a bassist, guitarist or singer that would like to practise your favourite songs from the game on your real instruments!

To clean up the audio you record have a look at some of the Other Audacity Tutorials for improving your recordings.

Guitar Hero 6 – coming soon!

We can't say we are surprised to hear it but Guitar Hero 6 is on it's way!

In an interview with Tesla guitarist Dave Rude he let slip that they have been asked to provide one of their tracks for the upcoming release, Modern Day Cowboy is, at the moment, the only track that we are aware of but rest assured more will follow.

There are no more details about the game at the moment, but as soon as information comes out we will pass it straight on to you and in the absence of actual facts lets start some speculation! What tracks or features would you like to see in the new game? Have Activision gone as far as they can with the series now or are there still ideas to come? One thing we would like to see is more of a crossover with DJ Hero, could we see some Limp Bizkit / Linkin Park tracks with a full band and a turntable? With the release of Band Hero to please the not-too-hard music fans will Guitar Hero 6 pick up where Guitar Hero 2 and 3 left off - classic rock and harder music?

We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas, just pop them in the comments below!

Solderless Drum Repair Kit

Filed under GH6 Drum Parts, GHWT Drum Parts, Repair stuff, Tutorials

We are very happy to bring you the latest product in our range of repair and upgrade parts for your Guitar Hero Instruments, the long awaited Solderless Drum Repair Kit.

We have been selling a drum repair kit on Guitar Hero Repair for a while now, but the feedback we have been getting is that it is quite fiddly and difficult to fit, well in response to this we have now launched the new version of this kit.

It can be used to fix any of your main drum pads on both the Guitar Hero and Band Hero drum kits and takes no more than 10 minutes to fit with just a screwdriver needed.

The drum pads work by means of a small sensor on the underside of the drum pad which picks up vibrations when the pad is hit. The wires from this sensor take the signal back to the main circuit board of the drums where all the important processing takes place. This repair kit includes a pre-assembled sensor, wire, plug for the circuit board with the special adhesive pad to allow you to attach it to the drums.

Installation could not be simpler! Open up the back of your drums with the appropriate screwdriver (Phillips or Torx 10 both of which are common sizes) unplug the old sensor wire from the circuit board (using pliers if needed) and remove the old sensor from the underside of the drums, then plug the new sensor in and stick it back to the underside of the drums using the special adhesive pad provided with this kit. The installation video above shows just how easy this repair is.

  • Is this kit compatible with the Band Hero drum kit?

Yes, the Band Hero Drum kit has almost identical internals so this kit has been tested on the new drum kit and it works perfectly

  • Do I get instructions with my order?

No, in this case the repair is so simple that all the instructions you could need are contained within the tutorial video above, you will receive a conformation email with a link to this page.

  • Do I need any special skills to fit this item?

No, if you can operate a screwdriver you will be fine to fit these!

  • Where can I get a Torx Screwdriver

Have a look at our 8 in 1 Torx Screwdriver Set

  • Can I use the sensor to repair my broken cymbal?

You could, but a cheaper option would be to just buy our standard drum repair kit, which also includes instructions on fitting a new sensor into your cymbal (soldering required)

DJ Hero is as addictive as Guitar Hero!

November 3, 2009 by

Well it came as a shock to us to, we are all of the metal persuasion when it comes to music, but DJ Hero may well be good enough to convert rockers to ravers!

The new game has been out for a few days now and having battled the shopping masses to get the game on release day, we have had some time to sit down and really get into the game. coming from the same makers as the Guitar Hero series you would be correct in assuming it shares a lot of the same features (renamed but still there, thinly disguised!) and some of those skills your fingers developed in GH will certainly come in handy while mixing.

The game operates as if you were a DJ playing 2 records at the same time, mixing and scratching between them and adding your samples over the top, this is easily represented in the game by the green and blue glowing lines as your two records, which can be scratched and played independently of each other or at the same time by use of the crossfader. You also have the samples which are represented by the red line, this allows you to play in the samples the song requires but also gives you the ability to throw in some of your own when you get the chance - not exactly contributing to the song very well but more making your friends laugh at all the air horns you are putting over an otherwise great track.

The mixes and DJ's represent a real variety of DJ based music from hip hop, old school, funk, r n b, dance, electronica and scratching genres and even through you may not think you'd like the music, when it feels like you have some control over it you really do feel involved.

The DJ controller is small but perfectly formed, it feels good, works well (so far!), and is not too big to have lying around with all your other plastic toys. We have done a complete stripdown of the controller and are in the process of getting the article ready at the moment, as soon as it is done we can show you the inner workings so all you modders can start thinking of how to pimp it up a little!

The longevity of the game will depend on DLC (and how deep your pockets are) and how much you love the music but with the difficulty akin to maybe GHWT, most people should be able to 4/5 star things on easy after a bit of practise but hard and then expert will take some work, this should last a good while.

Band Hero demo out now & full track list

October 27, 2009 by

Xbox Live gold members can head over to the game demos section and download a free playable demo of Band Hero, the latest offering in the Guitar Hero Family.

Band Hero is built using the same basic engine as Guitar Hero 5, the look and feel of the game is very similar. The big differences between the two games is the target audience, Band hero caters for a more diverse audience, it is easier to pick up and play than some Guitar Hero titles and the music is more mainstream with more pop hits including tracks like Walking On Sunshine (Katrina & The Waves) which is included along with two other decent tracks in the demo version.

Don't think that just because the playlist is not entirely Iron Maiden, Metallica and Megadeath, it is a lame game for kids, yes this will be easier for younger players to get into, but it does not mean that the game will be 'beneath' any of your more experienced players. The playlist included in the console version goes like this:

- 3 Doors Down - "When I'm Gone"
- The Airborne Toxic Event - "Gasoline"
- The All American Rejects - "Dirty Little Secret"
- Alphabeat - "Fascination"
- Aly and AJ - "Like Whoa"
- Angels & Airwaves - "The Adventure"
- Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals - "Steal My Kisses"
- Big Country - "In a Big Country"
- The Bravery - "Believe"
- Carl Douglas - "Kung Fu Fighting"
- Cheap Trick - "I Want You To Want Me (live)"
- Cold War Kids - "Hang Me Up To Dry"
- Corinne Bailey Rae - "Put Your Records On"
- Counting Crows - "Angels of the Silences"
- Culture Club - "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me"
- Dashboard Confessional - "Hands Down"
- David Bowie - "Let's Dance"
- Devo - "Whip It"
- Don McLean - "American Pie"
- Duffy - "Warwick Avenue"
- Duran Duran - "Rio"
- Evanescence - "Bring Me To Life"
- Everclear - "Santa Monica (Watch The World Die)"
- Fall Out Boy - "Sugar, We're Goin' Down"
- Filter - "Take A Picture"
- Finger Eleven - "Paralyzer"
- The Go-Go's - "Our Lips Are Sealed"
- Hilary Duff - "So Yesterday"
- Hinder - "Lips Of An Angel"
- Jackson 5 - "ABC"
- Janet Jackson - "Black Cat"
- Jesse McCartney - "Beautiful Soul"
- Joan Jett - "Bad Reputation"
- Joss Stone - "You Had Me"
- Katrina and The Waves - "Walking On Sunshine"
- The Kooks - "Naive"
- KT Tunstall - "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree"
- The Last Goodnight - "Pictures Of You"
- Lily Allen - "Take What You Take"
- Maroon 5 - "She Will Be Loved"
- Marvin Gaye - "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"
- Mighty Mighty Bosstones - "The Impression That I Get"
- Nelly Furtado - "Turn Off The Light"
- N.E.R.D. - "Rockstar"
- No Doubt - "Just A Girl"
- No Doubt - "Don't Speak"
- OK Go - "A Million Ways"
- Papa Roach - "Lifeline"
- Parachute - "Back Again"
- Pat Benatar - "Love Is A Battlefield"
- Poison - "Every Rose Has Its Thorn"
- Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue - "Kids"
- The Rolling Stones - "Honky Tonk Women"
- Roy Orbison - "Oh Pretty Woman"
- Santigold - "L.E.S. Artistes"
- Snow Patrol - "Take Back the City"
- Spice Girls - "Wannabe"
- Styx - "Mr. Roboto"
- Taylor Swift - "Love Story"
- Taylor Swift - "Picture To Burn"
- Taylor Swift - "You Belong With Me"
- Tonic - "If You Could Only See"
- The Turtles - "Happy Together"
- Village People - "YMCA"
- Yellowcard - "Ocean Avenue"

There are some great songs in there even if they are not ear-bleeding guitar solo tracks, they will make a great playlist at any party and should go someway to combining the (and this is not a sexist view just personal experience) mainly female played Singstar, and mainly male played Guitar Hero. Just imagine finding a game that you and your girlfriend can enjoy at the same time - what a novelty!

One of the most welcome bits of news included in this Band Hero announcement is the inclusion of the song import function. As you can transfer tracks from GHWT to GH5, you can also transfer the GHWT songs and GH5 songs into Band Hero or vice versa.

In conclusion, this should be a great game and a welcome addition to your now towering pile of Guitar Hero titles.

Use your GHWT drums on your PC as e-drums!

October 21, 2009 by

We wrote an article a while ago with a great deal of help from one of our visitors showing you how you can use your e-drums as a Guitar Hero Game Controller. This was a very popular article with lots of interest.

Now the cleaver guys over at pctutorialsonline.net have written the software and created some great tutorial videos showing how to connect your Guitar Hero World Tour drums to the PC and use them like a real professional e-drum kit. So now we have the best of both worlds, whatever skins you own can be used for gaming and creating music!

I mentioned a while ago that I would create a how to video on using your Guitar Hero World Tour Drum kit on your PC. Thanks to Magnus’ PS360MIDI Drummer software, the ability to use the GH:WT drum kit on PC became possible. To think that you could turn a gaming controller into a high quality midi controller is amazing. Something like a Yamaha DTXpress costs $800 AU + .

I realize you can’t compare the GT:WT drum kit to fully decked electronic drum kit, but for less than $150 , the Guitar Hero World Tour Drum Kit does a pretty awesome job. Watch the videos below on how to setup your Guitar Hero World Tour Drum Kit on PC

I encourage you all to pop over and have a look at what they have created, it is quite amazing!

Guitar Hero 5 vs Beatles Rock Band – Very Funny!

September 29, 2009 by

With Guitar Hero 5 and Beatles Rock Band coming out at the same time there was bound to be comparisons drawn. This is a very off the wall of comparing the two of them and commenting on the whole Guitar Hero Series - Be warned though, this video does contain some 'language' and should not be viewed by under 18's!

Funny and well worth a watch but maybe not entirely our view of the state of things!
