Updated!

We have now opened a forum for all your guitar hero questions as this page was getting a bit too big! You can now post all your problems and read the solutions here, and comments will be closed on this page from now on.

Send us your problems and we will answer them for you! See how simple an idea can be?

Following a few emails from people with different Guitar Hero problems we have decided to start this section. All you need to do is post your problems below and we will tell you how to sort them out with pictures and advice. We hope over time this will become a useful resource for people all over the world who need a bit of help sorting out any issue they have with drums, microphones or guitars, after all they take a lot of abuse and are going to need some TLC from time to time so why not ask to see if we have any guides for fixing broken whammy bars, neck sliders or why the red drum does not respond anymore!

To start you off here is a letter we received

Hi

I just found your site while looking through ebay and I was wondering about my Whammy bar which recently broke, well it still works but it just hangs down limp all the time and does not spring back anymore, it just sits there pressed down all the time. Any ideas on how I can fix this or have you come across this problem before?

Thanks Jay

Well as it happens we had seen this before. It is caused by a small spring on the back of the whammy bar which would either break, fall off a small anchor point inside the guitar or the small anchor point could have broken off. We sent Jay a few pictures of what he needed and he was back up in no time!

If you want your questions answered just post them below for all to see and we will get back to you.

Exciting DJ Hero News!

Well after bringing you the story and teaser pictures of the forthcoming DJ hero game, more details are now coming in about exactly what it will consist of... and its looking good!

Thanks to the Red Octane blog we now know that the game will feature music and features from two of the biggest artists in the field - Jay-Z and Eminem. With these two pioneers of music lending their talents to the development of the game and providing exclusive music and special edition premium controllers for the game it is shaping up to be a good release, don't worry if you are a hardened rock god through, there will be element where the DJ (on his decks) and the Guitarist (on his GH axe!) can join forces to make sweet, sweet music together! Lets hope they also reveal the ability to add live drums into the DJ mix too!

Here is a small expert form the Red Octane Blog

DJ Hero immerses fans into DJ culture and a sea of music as they take turns with their friends, scratching songs, playing along to the hottest tracks and ruling the party. The game’s innovative turntable controller was created exclusively for the game and features familiar DJ tools including a fully-rotating turntable, sample buttons, effects dial and crossfader. Players master various DJ techniques as they play along to visual cues for scratching, blending, crossfading and sampling, and can also add their own creative spark by choosing to add a variety of effects, samples and scratches. Social expression is heightened with euphoric multiplayer gameplay where two DJs can battle competitively or have a player join in to emcee over any track in the game using any USB compatible microphone. Additionally, gamers can rock together as DJ Hero features DJ-guitar exclusive mixes played with a turntable controller and Guitar Hero(R) guitar controller.

With Activisions previous form of encouraging user generated music to be shared with others this really could be a way of making good music at home without too much trouble or technical knowledge! Who knows maybe  in a few years time they'll be topping the charts!

What do you think? Is this a good move for Activision and will it see genuine good content from players or is it just another gimmicky attempt at expanding the franchise?

Latest Red Octane Deals

Red Octane have got a new product soon to be availiable from their online shop and it is called - Guitar Hero Drum Kit Deluxe Midi Tuning Kit! Catchy name eh?!

Could it be that now we expected to pay to have the drums set up correctly? I think it was a good move to bring out the drum tuning kit following the raft of complaints about non responsive drum pads but to now offer to sell us the same functionality? Should it not be included free as standard if they accept people have the need for such an item? What Do you think?

Red Octane have been good to us too with $10 coming off the Guitar Hero Metallica games and bundles and a free T shirt with extra microphones being purchased through the site, not to forget that they still have their voucher code running for 10% off until 19th June!

Just one thing then Red Octane - when you going to start worldwide shipping so the rest of the world can play too?

First Details of Guitar Hero 5

The next Guitar Hero game on the horizon is going to be Guitar Hero 5, which was first announced last week in a statement from Activision. The new game is getting ready to drop in Autumn this year, and will feature new ways of playing the game as well as the expected all new setlist. The news come from a recent interview with the Washington post, where Brian Bright (Project Director) revealed the games first details.

Songs Announced:

Tom Petty - Running Down A Dream

The White Stripes - Blue Orchid

Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil

Bob Dylan - All Along The Watchtower

Santana - No One To Depend On

Vampire Weekend - A-Punk

Johnny Cash - Ring Of Fire

Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire

Stevie Wonder - Superstition (where the guitar is going to be playing the notes of Stevie Wonders Clavinet Keyboard!)

Iron Maiden - Unknown Song

The White Stripes - Unknown Song

Also it seems some gameplay modes are going to be more suited at parties with the ability for all four members of the band to pick which ever instrument they like (even all playing guitar / drums at the same time), leave or join the song individually without interrupting the gameplay for others (great when you need to get another drink mid-song!) and change difficulty mid song too. Another new game mode mentioned was the Competitive Fest mode where players compete against each other at home (up to 4 players) or online (up to 8 players) for the highest score, presumably this would all be on the same instruments too, so good if you have a competitive group of friends to play with.

We can't wait to see what else it has to offer!

We try and provide you with all the information you will need before you purchase any parts from us. Most of our product pages have their own, item specific FAQ's but here are some more general ones.

Have a look through our list of frequently asked questions if there is anything you need to know, if you have a question about a topic we have not covered please Contact Us

  • What do you get with a strummer repair kit? - the kit contains 1 or 2 switches and printed fitting instructions, you will also get an email when your item is dispatched and this will include a download link for an extra copy of the instructions in high resolution colour PDF format
  • Should I buy a single or double repair kit? - In 90% of the guitars we see, only 1 switch ever really breaks but as it only takes an extra minute or two to fit a second switch it is something you should consider which is why we offer heavy discounts on the second switch
  • How long will shipping take? - See our shipping information page
  • I have never soldered before, can I still perform these repairs? - Soldering is not a difficult thing to pick up and with a bit of patience and half an hour practise you should be fine. You can view a good soldering guide to give you some pointers.
  • What happens if I have any trouble with the fitting? - We provide full email support for all customers and troubleshooting guide if needed
  • I don't have a Palpal account but I want something you have advertised - You can still add items to your cart and pay without ever signing up for a Paypal account if you don't want one, you will be given a link to pay with credit card at the checkout stage and you can do this without registering with paypal at all.
  • You don't have my local currency listed can I still buy from you? - Yes just select your preferred currency from the list and Paypal will exchange it automatically and at no charge to you.
  • Why can I not add items of different currencies to my shopping cart? - Paypal will only allow payments in one currency at a time you will need to checkout or empty a cart of one currency before you can start another currency
  • I'm looking for a repair / part that I cannot find on your site - We keep a large amount of stock for lots of GH products, use the Contact Us link  or give us a call on 0800 072 3870 to ask us if we have what you are looking for!

DJ Hero: Controller pictures released

May 8, 2009 by Steve

Thanks to the DJ Hero tweet (oh yes 'tweet' is a proper word now!) we have got these first glimpse pictures of the controllers for the upcoming DJ Hero and they look pretty cool.

I would guess looking at the pictures that the finished item may look something like this

Possible DJ Hero Setup

Possible DJ Hero Setup

The big question is going to be do you get to 'scratch' the turntable? I think (and hope!) that will be the case, and so controlling the game may well be a case of using the 'scratch' action of the turntable along with a combination of buttons to produce different scratch sounds which may come down on a highway like Guitar Hero, but then I imagine there will be the need to beat-match two tracks and fade them in (are we gonna get cool one eared DJ headphones too?)

That would give you the basic gameplay of starting on a track, scratching it up Mix Master Mike style, beatmatching and fading into a new track, scratching it up again and so on.

Remember all this conjecture is based on the two photos above, this is only my idea if you have a better one (or better still you are a whistle-blower working for Red Octane!) then tell us all about it.
